Practice Plus Group Diagnostics, Buckinghamshire

Infection control

As in all clinical environments, reducing the risk of infection and HAIs (Healthcare Acquired Infections) is a vital component of NHS patient care at the Treatment Centre.

We take great pride in the cleanliness of Practice Plus Group Diagnostics, Buckinghamshire, and we work extremely hard to ensure we keep the ‘bugs at bay.’

Our infection control manager is responsible for all aspects of infection control, including monitoring cleanliness and training all staff.

We have a robust infection control programme in place and hold monthly meetings that are attended by staff representatives who coordinate infection control activities in their area, and chaired by the general manager. This ensures that infection control remains at the highest priority at all times.

Keeping the Treatment Centre Clean

Cleaning services within the Practice Plus Group Diagnostics, Buckinghamshire are monitored daily, and are also monitored by patients in our patient satisfaction survey. We aim to keep cleanliness to the highest standard, however, if you are unhappy with any aspect of the Centre, please speak to a member of staff so that we can immediately address the problem.

MRSA screening

If you need an operation, the clinical team will take a swab from your nose to test for a bacteria called MRSA. This bacteria is often found on healthy people and causes no problems. However, it can cause a very nasty infection after surgery or if someone is weak and unwell. Within a few days we will have the results and if you have the bacteria we will contact you and organise an antibacterial treatment for you before you come in for your operation. We will give you more information about this test when the decision is taken that you need an operation.

Bug-free

We are extremely proud to have not had a single case of MRSA since we opened but we are not complacent about this and need the continued support of staff, patients and the public to make sure we keep this record.

  • Make sure you wash your hands regularly and especially before eating or after going to the toilet.
  • Tell staff if you notice any areas of the ward that look messy or dirty.
  • Do not share your items e.g. clothing and shampoo with other patients.

I’m a visitor. How can I help the Centre stay ‘bug-free?’

  • Wear clean clothes when visiting and avoid sitting on the patient’s bed.
  • Do not bring fresh flowers as they can pose an infection control risk.
  • If you are ill or have been ill in the past few days, please avoid visiting until you are better.
